Weird Celeb Trend Alert: Getting Decked Out To Sit Courtside

Reposted from Slaves to Fashion - Daily Style Blog by Glamour.com

There are a lot of ways to tell the world "I'm important--I'm a celebrity!" without saying a word, ranging from the not-so-subtle (yes, Heidi and Spencer and your endless "candid" photo opps, we're talking to you) to the slightly-more-discreet (showing up three hours late everywhere you go, including your own parties). But lately celebs have been flashing their select status by getting dressed the way most of us do for a once-in-a-lifetime Cinderella moment...for a basketball game.

Last week, Fergie and the rest of the Black Eyed Peas went straight from the American Music Awards to the Lakers game--but she didn't bother to change out of her gold sequined Naeem Khan dress and glittering Christian Louboutin pumps. The rest of the Peas had plenty of time to slip out of their AMA ensembles, but Fergie must have taken one look at herself in that gorgeous dress and decided, "I'm a celebrity, dammit, I'm leaving this on!"

Victoria Beckham recently sat courtside at the Staples Center with her family, too,and you know she wasn't about to show up in mom jeans and a pair of dingy white tennis sneakers. The former Spice Girl used her front row seat as a prime time forum to show off her new $930 Christian Louboutin Maggie pumps and one of the many Hermes Birkin bags from her $2 million collection--leave the boring jerseys to the boys!

And speaking of boys, they've been getting in on the dapper spectator thing, too. Check out Jay Z in a velvet tuxedo complete with cuff links, a lapel pin, and a perfectly tied bow-tie, taking in a game with Interscope Records founder Jimmy Iovine. Nothing says "I'm a baller" like showing up to see the Lakers play in black tie, right?

What do you dolls think of celebrities getting all decked out to go to basketball games? Do you think they look a little ridiculous and should just grab a pair of sneakers like the rest of us, or do you feel like famous faces should always look their best? Does it make them seem a little bit more important and untouchable, or just out of touch? Would you ever get this dolled up to go to a basketball game? Discuss.
